OFFICE OF THE BISHOP

February 28, 2007

Dear Pastor Koch,

Thank you for your e-mail of February 26 to Mike Perillo and me. We are sorry that you have chosen to leave the Episcopal Church. We wish it could be otherwise. However, we are grateful to you for your honesty and the honorable way you are planning for the future. We also hope that you have some pastoral support as you go through a time of deep emotional turmoil and grief. We're concerned for your family and all members of your congregation as well. You have been and will continue to be in our prayers.

As you move forward please keep us and the Rev. Canon Scott Hayashi informed so we can be prepared and can provide services, pastoral care and support for those who might choose to stay in the Episcopal Church. Scott or the Rev. Canon Randall Warren will be in touch with you about this.

We're grateful for your intention to provide an inventory of church property and a list of personal items which will be removed. The turn over of keys, accounts and parish records is important and we thank you for your plan to clean the buildings.

Again, thank you for the honorable, thoughtful and prayerful way you are dealing with this sad division. You are in our prayers as you move into a new future. We will miss you. And, please know that the doors of the Episcopal Church and the Diocese of Chicago will always remain open for you and for any others who might choose to return.

Faithfully yours in Christ,

William D. Persell
Bishop of Chicago
