Prophetic Training
Conference
“Training Up the Saints”
FEBRUARY 21-23, 2003
At Church of the Resurrection, West Chicago
SPECIAL SPEAKERS
Pastor John Skarphol
and Glad Tidings Fellowship
Prophecy Teams
West Fargo, ND
This
conference is designed for all children of God to be released and encouraged in
the gift of
Prophecy.
You may be asking, “What is prophecy?” We realize that there is widespread
confusion and misunderstanding about this. Some imagine that it is like fortunetelling, or predicting the future, or even acting funny and “super-holy.” It is
none of these things. Rather, it is a wonderful and encouraging gift, described
in Scripture as intended to be widely available in the church for the building
up and encouragement of believers. This conference is intended both to teach the
fundamentals of this gift (what it is, what it is not, and how it
works), and demonstrate its
use in blessing others and in healing prayer.
Let love be your highest goal, but also desire the special abilities the Spirit
gives, especially the gift of prophecy. …One who prophesies is helping others
grow in the Lord, encouraging and comforting them. (1 Corinthians 14:1,3)
The
focus of the conference is not to teach people to be prophets or to move in the
office of prophet (this distinction is important and will be examined during the
teachings). And there is no desire whatsoever to manipulate others or to teach
manipulation. Rather, the goal is to teach and act with authenticity and
integrity—and learn how to understand and be open to this gift of the Holy
Spirit promised in Scripture.
The team will teach biblical and practical principals for the use of prophecy.
Each participant will be encouraged and have the opportunity to move in and
experience this wonderful gift God has given us. It is the team’s hope and
prayer that when you leave this conference, you will have a clear biblical
understanding of prophecy and how it operates. Our prayer is that you will also
be more open to the moving of the Holy Spirit—and most of all, that you will
know His voice better than when you came through these doors.
Restricted Invitation.
Unlike other Resurrection conferences, this one is not “open to the
public” and advertised to other churches. Registration is restricted to members
and friends of Resurrection, Glad Tidings, and individuals invited by them. If
you got an invitation in the mail or from a friend at Resurrection or Glad
Tidings, you’re eligible. This is a new area for us at Rez, and we want to make
sure we’ve absorbed it and made it a part of our lives before we offer it more
widely.
What will be expected of me?
Dress comfortably and casually. We ask that no alcohol or illegal drugs be
consumed during the course of the weekend. Smoking is restricted to outdoor
areas during designated breaks and meals. We also request that no cologne or
perfume be used, as some folks are highly sensitive or allergic and we will be
in confined spaces. Please put pagers and cell phones off, or on vibrate, while
in the conference.
Thank you for being considerate of others!
What should I bring?
1. Willingness
and enthusiasm.
This retreat can produce profound learning and growth, but we can resist it! God
will not violate our free will, so our willing cooperation with him in this work
is vital to its success.
2. Your
Bible.
The translation isn’t critical, though we recommend you bring one in clear,
modern English. You’ll want this for some teaching sessions and quiet times.
Make sure your name and phone number are in your Bible.
3.
A notebook and a pen.
The cost of the retreat is $35.
You
may send a check or use Visa or Master Card. This includes all materials, two
meals on site on Saturday, and plenty of snacks. A free-will offering will be
taken during the conference.
Our space is very limited.
Registration will be on a first-come, first-served basis, so don’t delay.
Scholarships
are available for those who could
not otherwise afford to come, and
some limited housing is available
in the homes of members of Resurrection. Call Terry Brady at 630-221-0105.
