New Octagon ChurchOn June 10, 2007, during our Sunday worship service, we signed the contract to purchase 13 acres of land on Roosevelt Road in West Chicago! It is an enormous piece of property with mature trees and plants, two very large ponds, a winding roadway between them, and a real sense of quiet and peace — right in the middle of a growing and noisy suburb! An aerial view of the property is right here. Our property is south of Roosevelt extending to the plowed field, and west of the railroad tracks, extending to a bit before the commercial buildings west of us on Roosevelt. This is about one mile west of our current location, and we expect it to take us about three years to raise the funds, hire architects, planners and contractors, and build phase one of the new church. We're very excited and hopeful! Lots of hard work is ahead! During this worship service Pastor George spoke of our Vision for our church. If you'd like to, you can read the text here. Pictures of one of the Vestry members (Lynne Bowman) and Pastor George signing the contract are below, along with a picture of Carrie James (Fundraising Chairwoman), Jim Novak (Building Committee Chairman), and Mac Airhart (Land Owner and friend). The entire Vestry and Wardens signed the agreement and presented Mac with a check. The octagon cake represents the octagon church we intend to build on the property. We are meeting now with architects and planners as the design and construction phases are being planned.
