PastorFrom the Oxford English Dictionary: A shepherd of souls; one who has the spiritual oversight over a company or body of Christians, as bishop, priest, minister, etc.; spec. the minister in charge of a church or congregation, with particular reference to the spiritual care of his ‘flock’. One who exercises protecting care or guidance over a number of people. Resurrection is home to many people from a wide variety of Christian denominations and traditions. The term "pastor" is used at Resurrection to denote those individuals who have been trained, usually in seminary, and in some cases ordained by a church, to care for members of the Body of Christ. Although some of these folks would carry the title Reverend in their ordaining denomination, at Resurrection "Reverend" is used just for those ordained in the Episcopal Church or the Anglican Communion. This is not meant to diminish the value of anyone's ordination in another denomination, but to acknowledge that the formal title applies here to those ordained within our denomination, while the adjective "pastor" is used more broadly here for those with theological and practical ministry training and experience. |
