From the Oxford English Dictionary:

In... the United States to Episcopal clergymen having charge of a congregation.

"Rector" is from a French root that means to guide, lead straight, rule or govern. The sense of it is a leader who keeps things on course — right or straight — for those whom he or she leads. At Resurrection it designates the Senior Pastor.
